Selasie Vondee
Selasie Vondee is the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Smart Innovations Ghana Limited (SIGL), a Ghanaian technology company known for developing digital governance solutions for the country's mining and extractive sector. Since co-founding SIGL, he has led the design and delivery of platforms now used by some of Ghana's most important regulatory and industry bodies, including the Minerals Commission's nationwide excavator registration and tracking system, membership portals for the Ghana Chamber of Mines and the Chamber of Licensed Gold Buyers, and a joint import approval system developed for the Ministries of Transport, Finance, and Lands and Natural Resources. His work draws on deep technical expertise in digital cadastre systems, the electronic land and mineral-rights registries that governments use to track ownership and licensing, as well as in mineral traceability, assurance, and enterprise asset management.
Vondee's public-sector footprint extends well beyond mining. Since 2022, as technical lead for the Minerals Commission, he has served as lead software engineer on a project with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and Ghana's Environmental Protection Agency to modernise the country's artisanal and small-scale gold-mining registry. He has also worked with the World Bank, the West Africa Food System Resilience Programme, and the Ghana Meteorological Agency to build a crop calendar and advisory system that has delivered actionable farming guidance to more than two million farmers nationwide. His consulting work with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has further supported the Planting for Food and Jobs programme through a mobile platform that connects extension officers, aggregators, and farmers.
Earlier in his career, Vondee developed advanced enterprise Web3, government, and health applications for companies such as Blockwatch Data (United States) and Orcons Systems Limited (Ghana). He led the development of the SmartPay mobile app and worked on platforms including Extenzer and the Hewale Social Health App. Throughout his career, Vondee has consistently focused on applying practical, well-engineered technology to enhance transparency and efficiency in Ghana's public institutions and natural resource sectors.
