Engr. Dr. Sylvester Akpah

Dr Sylvester Akpah is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Smart Innovations Ghana Limited (SIGL), a Ghanaian technology company that specialises in digital governance solutions for the mining and extractive sector. Since founding SIGL in 2015, he has led the development of technology platforms serving government and industry clients, including Ghana's Minerals Commission Nationwide Excavator Registration and Tracking Platform, the Ghana Chamber of Mines Membership Portal, the Chamber of Licensed Gold Buyers Membership Portal and the Ministries of Transport, Finance, and Lands and Natural Resources Heavy Equipment Import Application and Approval System. His strong technical capabilities span areas such as digital cadastre systems, mineral traceability and assurance, and enterprise asset management.
Alongside his industry leadership, Dr Akpah serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, Ghana, where he contributes to teaching, research and the development of emerging talent in engineering and technology.
He is also the Executive Director of NephroGhana Limited and the Firm Health Ghana Foundation, organisations dedicated to advancing kidney health awareness, care and access in Ghana in the wake of heavy metal exposures in the Small-Scale Mining Space.
A 2018 Mandela Washington Fellow, Dr Akpah is recognised for his work at the intersection of technology, governance and development, driving digital transformation across Ghana's and West Africa's natural resources sector.
