Zambia Launches Digital Platform to Streamline Mining Licenses

Zambia Launches Digital Platform to Streamline Mining Licenses
The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development of Zambia has launched the Zambia Integrated Mining Information System (ZIMIS), a new digital platform aimed at improving efficiency and transparency in mining license management.

Replacing the previous Cadastre System, ZIMIS is designed to accelerate the issuance of mining rights, supporting Zambia’s goal of achieving 3.1 million tons of annual copper production by 2031.

The platform aligns with an ongoing compliance-monitoring initiative that repossessed over 1,000 non-compliant licenses in 2024. These licenses are set to be reallocated in 2025 to open more land for exploration and development.

The launch comes as Zambia reports a 79% increase in mining licenses granted in 2024 compared to the previous year.
