Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to Speak at AMW 2025

Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to Speak at AMW 2025
Yusif Sulemana, Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources of Ghana, has confirmed his participation in the upcoming African Mining Week (AMW) 2025, taking place from October 1–3 in Cape Town.

Minister Sulemana will join a high-level ministerial panel – From Extraction to Transformation: African Governments Driving Beneficiation and Value Addition – where he is expected to outline investment opportunities and strategic reforms enhancing the competitiveness of Ghana’s mining sector. He will also take part in an exclusive fireside chat, Ghana’s Gold Renaissance: Refining and Innovation, Enhancing the Nation’s Golden Potential, which will explore projects positioning Ghana as Africa’s top gold producer and the world’s sixth-largest.

AMW 2025 comes as Ghana achieves several milestones in its mining sector, underpinned by a five-pillar strategy aimed at advancing sustainable growth. In early 2025, the country established the Ghana Gold Board, a government agency targeting illegal gold trading and supporting small-scale miners. Within four months, the board facilitated $4 billion in exports from small-scale mining, nearly matching the $5 billion generated across all of 2024.

Ghana is also finalizing updates to its Minerals and Mining Act Policy, creating a more investor-friendly environment while enhancing local content development. Regulatory reforms have already attracted significant capital: AngloGold Ashanti has launched a $1 billion expansion program including the revitalization of the historic Obuasi Mine, and Asante Gold has secured $470 million for its Bibiani and Chirano gold projects. Additionally, the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative ranked Ghana highly in its 2025 global transparency index, recognizing the country’s governance and reform efforts in the extractive sector.

Amid this strong momentum, AMW offers Minister Sulemana a platform to engage potential investors and forge strategic partnerships. His participation underscores the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources’ strategic policy role in ensuring sustainable resource management, regulatory oversight and land access, as well as in shaping policies that attract investment, enhance transparency and support long-term growth in Ghana’s extractive industries.

African Mining Week serves as a premier platform for exploring the full spectrum of mining opportunities across Africa. The event is held alongside the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2025 conference from October 1-3 in Cape Town.
