AMW to Host Female Leaders at the Forefront of Africa’s Mining Transformation

AMW to Host Female Leaders at the Forefront of Africa’s Mining Transformation
As Africa’s mining sector prioritizes gender diversity, inclusivity and women empowerment, the upcoming African Mining Week (AMW) – Africa’s premier gathering for mining stakeholders – will spotlight female leadership driving mineral production and local beneficiation for sustainable growth. A dedicated Women in Leadership Forum will connect female leaders in the mining industry with emerging opportunities and global stakeholders through dialogue, partnerships, networking and knowledge exchange.

Among the prominent participants, Khadidja Hassane Abdoulaye, Secretary of State for Petroleum, Mines and Geology at Chad’s Ministry of Mines and Geology, will feature in the Africa’s Mineral Future: A Roadmap Toward Sustainable Growth and Value Creation panel. Abdoulaye is expected to share perspectives on sustainable mining practices, policy reforms and investment frameworks necessary for unlocking employment and revenue growth through local value addition.

Emma Townshend, Executive: Corporate Affairs at Implats and board member of Women in PGMs, alongside Kiana van Vuuren, Director and Head of Mining at Moore Global, will participate in the Women Pioneering Leadership in Africa’s Mining Industry panel. Townshend is expected to highlight Implats’ gender diversity strategy amid its multi-million-dollar investment program to strengthen South Africa’s position as the leading producer of platinum group metals. Vuuren, representing AMW knowledge partner Moore Global, will provide data-driven insights on mining investment trends and opportunities across the continent.

Marna Cloete, President and CFO of Ivanhoe Mines, will join the panel Mergers, Acquisitions, and Partnerships: Building Resilience in a Consolidating Industry. Cloete is anticipated to unpack Ivanhoe Mines’ investment strategy in Zambia and how it aligns with the country’s ambitious target to boost copper production to three million tons annually by 2031.

African Mining Week serves as a premier platform for exploring the full spectrum of mining opportunities across Africa. The event is held alongside the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2025 conference from October 1-3 in Cape Town.
