AMW 2025 to Feature Fireside Chats with Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria and Zimbabwe’s Mining Ministers
The upcoming African Mining Week (AMW) 2025 conference – Africa’s premier gathering for mining stakeholders – will feature a series of fireside chats with African mining ministers, highlighting milestones, strategies, policies and opportunities shaping the continent’s mining future.

Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Ghana’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, will participate in a fireside chat scheduled to take place on September 1, 2025. The discussion is expected to highlight the ministry’s six-pillar strategy which includes the formalization of small-scale mining, deepened collaboration with global investors and large-scale operators and investment in tokenization to improve gold traceability. Minister Buah is expected to highlight emerging opportunities within the gold industry as the country strengthens its position as Africa’s largest producer.

Karim Badawi, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum Resources and Mineral Resources, will participate in a fireside chat titled From Policy to Practice: Implementing Egypt’s Vision for Mineral Beneficiation. The discussion is anticipated to showcase efforts by Egypt to raise the mining sector’s contribution to GDP to 6% by 2030. Minister Badawi is expected to spotlight investment opportunities in potash, potassium and gold. The chat presents an opportunity for the minister to draw on Egypt’s decades of oil and gas expertise and showcase best practices that can be applied in mining, aligning with AMW 2025’s focus on synergies between the energy and mining sectors.

Under the theme Leadership and Innovation Shaping the Future of Mining, Day 2 of AMW 2025 will feature Winston Chitando, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Mines and Mining Development in a fireside chat highlighting the country’s local beneficiation of lithium. The discussion is also expected to highlight emerging opportunities within the platinum, chrome, gold and coal sectors as Zimbabwe pursues its ambition of building a $12 billion mining economy by 2030. In addition, a one-on-one session with Oladele Alake, Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, is expected to unpack Nigeria’s progress in unlocking the potential of its large-scale mining industry.

AMW serves as a premier platform for exploring the full spectrum of mining opportunities across Africa. The event is held alongside the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2025 conference from October 1-3 in Cape Town.
